Hello my friends,
The products that changed culture weren't designed by consensus.
They were championed by someone willing to be wrong.
In this week’s newsletter:
China’s robotics go the distance, how to communicate your way to influence and pursuing the final step with Palmer Luckey.
If you find CMMN WLTH useful, I’d appreciate if you shared it with your brightest friends and colleagues ↓

Humanoid Robots Run Beijing Half Marathon
“Hailed as a “historic moment” by the Chinese government, the race came amid an intensifying tech rivalry between the U.S. and China, the world’s two biggest powers in artificial intelligence.”
Recent advances in robotics, both in the US and in China, have shocked the internet - Mind blowing video by Boston Dynamics. Almost doesn’t look real.
Could be dismissed as a frivolous activity, in reality it’s an example of China’s ambition to lead in robotics, ai, and technology as a category.
The combination of ai and robotics will lead to unimaginable use cases for both public and military applications. Investment is crucial to stay ahead of the competition.

This Speaking Mistake Makes People Dislike You by Vinh Giang
“You get so much more out of life when you give more”
(On exchange of energy)
Being an effective and communicator increases your influence. The way you speak directly correlates with how people perceive you
There are 5 key elements to speaking effectively:
Melody - Variety of pitch. Monotone voice is forgettable.
Rate - Speaking slow and purposefully increases comprehension. Ideal range between 150 - 180 words.
Volume - Key to find the right volume at the right moment. Controls presence.
Tonality - Facial expressions dictate the emotion in your voice.
Pause - Pauses at the right time build drama and highlight key points.
Record and review yourself speaking. Film yourself to listen back and analyze non-verbal cues. Embrace the awkwardness of the process.

Palmer Luckey - Founder of Oculus VR and Anduril
“At it’s core, I’m a guy who understands enough about everything to know when there are opportunities to put new things together”.
Instead of asking yourself what the next step in innovation is, ask yourself what the final step is and pursue that.
Palmer was home schooled which allowed him to focus on his own interests. He attributes the creation of Oculus to the fact that he didn’t go to a regular school.
If you want to think outside the box you have to be willing to live inside the box to make an impact. You have to work within established systems rather than completely ignoring them.
