The thing I love the most about creating products is the incessant tension between art and science.
The science deals in absolutes.
But historical data can’t predict the future.
“Beware of geeks bearing formulas” — Warren Buffett
The art is what separates good from great.
It’s the invisible decisions that deliver a feeling the consumer loves, but can’t describe.
That feeling is the product.
The science is safe, comfortable.
The art makes non-creative types uneasy.
And it’s your obligation to fight for it.
When you’re inevitably right don’t expect anyone to recognize why.
The dots only connect in hindsight.
