Hello my friends,
Every advancement in technology is accompanied by a lingering anxiety that you’re getting left behind — especially as you get older.
With AI however, millennials have a head start over their Gen Z peers.
The ability to write clearly and concisely is rapidly becoming a meta skill.
Good writing = great prompts.
Leverage it while you can.
In this week’s newsletter: Brand turnarounds require patience, resist getting caught up in culture and an AI leader with a surprisingly low tech thinking system.
If you find CMMN WLTH useful, I’d appreciate if you shared it with your brightest friends and colleagues ↓

How Long Does it Take to Turnaround a Brand? By Michelle Wiles
“In reality, most turnarounds take ~5 years. At least. It takes time to update product and operations, shift perception and regain the zeitgeist.”
Alignment behind a new brand strategy is the first stage of a turnaround. Team organization, budgets and operations should be updated to support the updated product and brand strategy.
Building momentum behind the transformation consists bringing the strategy to life both internally and through marketing, introducing it to the consumer in a compelling way. Repetition and consistency are key to success at this stage.
Balancing innovation and consistency has to be consumer centric. Prioritize consumer feedback while maintaining brand integrity.

Do it Your Way by Morgan Housel
“It gets dangerous when you assume that if someone else is spending their money differently they either must be doing it better than you or doing it wrong.”
The definition of success is living the life you want to live. Learn from other people but recognizing that the best strategy for you might not be the same as theirs.
Avoid getting caught up in culture. Unburden yourself from the fear that someone else thinks you are living wrong.
Money and job title are inferior measures of success compared to getting what you want out of life.

“It’s really important that people still learn to write”
(Even in the age of AI)
Contrary to typing, writing in a note pad with a pen is a way of visualizing ideas. Handwriting is a tool for thinking clearly.
Use time in between meetings, in the back of a car, on a plane, to write notes. Thoughts are fragile. Don’t wait for inspiration or planned stretches of downtime.
Sam uses a spiral bound notebook to enable him to rip pages out and lay them next to each other further enhancing visual thinking.

Close friend and extraordinarily talented photographer Bryce Thompson will launch his Borrowed Spotlight project this week in NYC.
I’ve had the privilege to see him put the final touches to a philanthropic and creative journey that started almost 3 years ago.
Borrowed Spotlight pairs Holocaust survivors with Hollywood A-listers enabling them to use their platform to put an end to anti-semitism.
The book is available online now here.
