Hello my friends,
I just finished listening to episode #45 of the Huberman podcast with guest Dr. Duncan French of the UFC Performance Lab.
It’s an absolute gold mine of ideas for both physical and mental conditioning.
I can’t claim to understand every method and mechanism but his explanation of what separates elite and non-elite athletes is not only surprising but particularly relevant to today’s creative culture ↓
Dr. Duncan French:
“At the most elite level, you’re not training harder than anybody else.
Everybody (in the UFC) trains hard but the best athletes, the true elite levels are the ones that can do it again and again on a daily basis and sustain a technical output for skill development — therefore their skills can improve.
Their physical development or physical attributes can improve.
The ability to reproduce on a day to day basis falls into a recovery conversation.”
Exceptional performance is the product of short periods of focused “skill” development synthesized by high quality rest and recovery.
It reminded me of the Navalism: ”Don’t work like a grazing cow on the field all day, sprint and then rest, like a lion hunting.”
As the holidays approach I encourage you to take this advice to heart.
Let's get into it.
