Hello my friends,
I was just about to press send on this week’s newsletter when I learned of Virgil Abloh’s passing.
It didn’t feel right to continue business as usual so instead here are a few words on his legacy and the impact he had on me.
I met Virgil a handful of times.
He was soft spoken, curious, and seemingly as excited to meet you as you were to meet him.
He used creativity to challenge the status quo, inspire and open doors for others.
Formally trained in civil engineering and architecture. He was polymathic; building a fashion brand, designing sneakers and performance sportswear, cars and furniture, producing music and shows.
He was a maker and curator.
From the small peek I got behind the curtain, it was all driven by imagination and hard, really hard work.
Still, to this day I have never seen a work ethic like it.
It feels weird to mourn for someone famous, someone you didn’t know that well, but it puts in perspective, not only what is possible but what is important.
