Hello my friends,

Summer is in full swing and I hope there is some optimism in the air where you are.

Americans left 768 million days of paid time off unused last year and 55% did not use all of their paid vacation.

If you’re one of them I urge you to make use of it this year.

Working from home can be deceiving. Minor stressors compound over time and while it might feel less intense, it’s important to recognize the side effects; from isolation and guilt to full on burnout.

Time away from the office/studio has been scientifically proven to increase cognitive flexibility and lower stress, boosting creativity.

If you haven’t used half of your allotted vacation days you’re already behind. Do yourself a favor and get caught up.

Always trying to find the balance,

— Andy

Product

  • With summer in full flow, Birkenstocks are back on everyone’s feet. If you’re feeling like you need something a little more exclusive, try these.

  • “People are willing to pay 63% more for furniture they assemble themselves.” Effort justification and why it’s called the Ikea Effect.

  • When innovating, the biggest mistake is to try and invent everything yourself. Focus on one thing that differentiates your product, copy everything else.

People

  • The rebellion against hierarchy, status and authority has only just begun. Can DAOs offer a decentralized alternative?

  • Scott Belsky is the founder of Behance, a (wildly successful) investor and author. His views on drive, maintaining balance and routine.

  • Scroll through your LinkedIn timeline and you’ll notice everyone has turned into some sort of “coach”. An in depth analysis of the role and whether you should employ one.

Methods

  • “The days are long but the decades are short.” Sam Altman breaks down what is truly important.

  • Observe and deduce like everyone’s favorite detective. Nine principles you can apply to life and work.

  • Asking questions is easy, asking great questions is a skill. A framework to improve yours.

Out of Office

Throughout the pandemic, sporting events have had to get creative with their formats and find new ways to engage spectators.

Velon CC has taken this year’s Tour de France to the next level using a relatively simple formula.

Immersive camera angles and rider data offer a whole new viewpoint on one of the most unforgiving tests of human endurance.
